BIOphilic.tv is a social enterprise exploring tangible health and well-being benefits for patients and staff, anywhere in clinical, healthcare and care home settings, by connecting them to the natural world through slow TV and immersive VR environmental scenes.
It has long been recognised that the toll of hospital environments has a tiring effect and creates a fatigue or longing for familiar and comforting surroundings[i]. Other observed physiological effects of a visual connection with nature include lowered blood pressure and heart rate[ii], improved mental engagement and attentiveness[iii], and positively impacted attitude and overall happiness[iv].
The title of this service is taken from Edward O. Wilson’s Biophilia hypothesis (1984) that he defines as “the urge to affiliate with other forms of life.” Moving image content is captured in and around a variety of calming locations, selected to help improve health and well-being through the improved experience of the hospital environment..
We are a strong team with specific interests and experience that complements all facets of providing tangible health and wellness benefits by connecting patients and staff, anywhere in clinical, healthcare and care home settings, to the natural world through slow TV and immersive VR environmental scenes
